It’s official, Whistler Blackcomb opens November 22nd for the winter season. We’re stoked and we know you are too.
Here are a few things to sort out in the next few weeks to make sure you’re totally prepared for another amazing season on the hill.
Get your pass
Book your lodging
The longer you wait to book your lodging, the higher prices go up. Most Whistler hotels, including the Summit Lodge, are offering their highest discount of the season when you book before November 15th.
If you’re looking for the local experience, take any housing you can find! Finding winter accommodation can be extremely difficult, especially with the season nearby.
Work on your mountain legs
With the shoulder season rain putting a damper on outdoor activities, now is the time to build explosive strength with classic, compound exercises such as squats, deadlifts, and lunges. Mix in some leg raises, planks, kettlebell swings and medicine ball tosses to strengthen the core. Finally, hit the bosu ball or wobble board to fine tune your balance.
Even more important than building strength is taking the strain off your joints with mobility work. It may be tedious at times but this is what will get you through the season healthy and with lots of spring left in your step. Foam rollers and massage balls are excellent for breaking up tight, stubborn muscle groups like the quads and glutes. The sauna, hot tub, and steam room are great for heating up muscles for a deep stretch. They are also said to have additional healing properties. Yoga and hot yoga target mobility and balance at the same time.
Get your gear ready
Double check your gear to make sure nothing bothers you on your first day out. Wash and apply waterproofing to your outerwear. Make sure your goggles are clean and in good shape, and apply anti-fog if needed. Check the hardware on your skis/snowboard to make sure nothing is loose. If you’ve got dry, warm hands and feet, clear goggles, and glitch-free gear, you’re gonna have a good time.
