Whistler Blackcomb Opening Day 2015: Photo Recap

On November 19th, at 7am, we joined the line for opening day at Whistler Blackcomb. The gondola doesn’t start uploading until 8.30am, but that doesn’t matter when you’ve been waiting for this day for six months. All that matters is that you want to be one of the first to lay a turn down on this year’s fresh snow.

Even at 7am we were easily a hundred people back. We spoke to a few folks who arrived at 5am so get the front spot at Creekside, and knew of people who were at the Whistler Village gondola even earlier. You’d think at that time most people would still be picking sleep out of their eyes, rolling up barley dressed, and hungry, but not this crowd. Fuelled by croissants, bacon sandwiches, and coffee from Dusty’s Backside and live jams from local Whistler band The McQuaids, the opening day stoke was infectious.

Here’s how opening day 2015/16 played out at Whistler Blackcomb.

7.55am and the crowds of early bird skiers and snowboarders are watching the clock. Whistler mountain officially opens at 8.30am, so they start uploading at 8.15am.

In the hurry to claim spots in the line-up, some eager beavers forget to activate their Whistler Blackcomb season pass or Edge Cards. Don’t let that be you. Double check the status of you pass using the Whistler Blackcomb app, by calling Guest Relations, or by dropping into a ticket desk.
