Some year’s Whistler can hit around 18ºC – 21ºC in the village, even when there’s still lots of snow in the alpine – but it’s not only in the village where you’ll need sunscreen. In the alpine the sun reflects off the snow and the cold breeze distracts you from the heat. There’s a fine line between an awesome goggle tan and painful sunburn, don’t be that guy/gal.
Even if you have a beard, dab a little on your nose. You’ll thank us.
2. Your dancing shoes
Who says nothing comes for free? FIDO at WSSF is bringing you a free 10-day program of music concerts spanning a vast variety of genres to feed your soul and get into the festival groove.
The FIDO Outdoor Concert Series is anchored at the WSSF festival Main Stage, located in Skier’s Plaza, in front of the Excalibur Gondola and the Whistler Village Gondola. Join us at our stage and enjoy the massive crowd, serious beats and unforgettable vibe. It’s all for you and it’s all for free.
Somewhat related to number 1 on our list, but also essential for afternoons of hanging out with friends at the Halfpipe Fam Jam and après drinks on one of Whistler’s many patios. If you don’t have a pair to bring with you, stop by Comor Sports just across the street from the hotel, they’ll get you sorted.
Almost every hotel in Whistler has a hot tub or a pool. Not to toot our own horn, but we’re lucky that ours gets the afternoon sun and backs on to a beautiful forest park. Skiing and hot tubs go together like PB&J, make sure you grab your swimsuit.
If you do forget yours, The Beach (Whistler’s best swimsuit store) is right across from the hotel (also a great place to pick up sunscreen).
Whether you have an iPhone, a point and shoot, or a DSLR, do not leave it behind on Monster Boarderstyle day. For 2016 the Monster Boarderstyle returns with the World Championships, where riders will compete in a head-to-head boardercross-style race with large slopestyle features to win $10,000.
The event is open to anyone, with registration currently available online at http://wssf.com/Monster-
5. Backpack You Can Ride/Ski With
If you’re going to be spending all day on the slopes you a need a pack to carry your camera, sunscreen, and bathing suit (if you’re feeling brave). They’re also useful for storing layers when you get too hot, or sticking on chairs to save a seat at the bar.
The pack above can be purchased online from our friends at Comor Sports, or you can stop by their store in Whistler. It’s right across the street from the hotel, just ask front desk to point you in the right direction.
